The Temprees

The Temprees hail from Memphis, Tennessee.

Between 1970 and 1973, the group comprised of:

Deljuan Calvin (vocals)

Jasper 'Jabbo' Phillips (lead tenor) (b. 1950, Memphis, Tennessee, U.S.A. d. 21st February 2001, Memphis, Tennessee, U.S.A.)

Harold H. ‘Scotty' Scott (vocals)

Between 1973 and 1976, the group comprised of:

The Temprees released three albums for the We Produce records imprint (a subsidiary of Stax Records).

The group were, originally, known as The Lovemen.

Jasper ‘Jabbo’ Phillips, Harold ‘Scotty’ Scott and Deljuan ‘Del’ Calvin met during the mid-1960s, whilst in junior high school.

The three were at school at the same time as Larry Dodson, the future lead singer of The Bar-Kays.

The Temprees

The Temprees were signed to Stax Records in 1970, recording during a four year period on Stax’s We Produce subsidiary.

In 1972, the trio performed at the famous Wattstax festival in Los Angeles.

They later signed to Epic Records in 1976, releasing three albums for both imprints.

These included ‘Lovemen’ (in 1972), ‘Love Maze’ (in 1973)’ and Temprees 3’ (in 1974).

The group’s last hit came in 1976 with ‘I Found Love On A Disco Floor’ b/w ‘There Ain't A Dream Been Dreamed’.

Their catalog was later re-released on CD in 1994.

The Temprees reunited in the 1990’s.

Lead singer Jasper ‘Jabbo’ Phillips died on the 21st of February 2001, at the age of 51.

Jasper had suffered for years with kidney problems.

He was replaced by Del's brother Jerry ‘JC’ Calvin.

The Temprees

The Temprees' rendition of ‘Dedicated To The One I Love’ was featured on the album ‘Stax 50th Anniversary Celebration’ in 2007.
