Sylvester James was a gay American disco and soul musician.

Performing under his first name only, he is considered one of the first Hi-NRG artists.

Sylvester James died from complications as a result of the A.I.D.S. virus in 1988, and was looked after until his passing by his long time friend, the singer Jeannie Tracey.
