George Reid

George Reid has been a great support to this old fool over the last twenty years. Firstly, he is a very good deejay.

Secondly, he has immaculate taste in music, which I guess many pundits would describe as 'eclectic'.

This is great in as much as he has no musical 'blinkers on' regarding all genre's of this convaluted mish mash

that constitutes the Black music we all know and love.

George retired from his daytime career, to concentrate on his music. George told me:

I have put a few links below to some  things  that I am messing about with since I have retired.  I think you will like the radio show, especially if you stick with it until we get to the mid  70s and play  the best stuff. At the moment we are in April 1970. I’m using the old B&S magazines as my reference and a few books for what was going on in the USA clubs such as the Loft. What were you doing in 1970? I was still at primary school.

I’m running a night here in Edinburgh. If you are ever here for a visit or know friends who are let them know.

My radio show looks back at the 1970s only playing the music that was available at the time as its part of the http://livingmemory.org.uk so its all about records and reminisence music and memories. As far as I’m aware there has never been a radio show like this. The show below was pre- recorded and will go out today at 1.30 – 3.30 and will be  repeated on Saturday night.

I’ve done 4 shows so far. On the show I only play the music of the day starting at January 1970 and looking back at the evolution of disco and soul. I’m up to April 1970. Its so tempting to play the music that came out later that year but I’m sticking to  chronological order in keeping with the ethos of The Living Memory organisation. I use my own    record and CD collection, no computers or laptops. The studio is very basic, we don’t even have direct drive turntables  so its is exactly like being back in 1970 as the  right hand turntable sometimes cuts out off the record like an old dansette! Please ignore  the gaffs  and ramblings and just enjoy the music.  Maybe we should start a justgiving page to raise money for Technics!

You can listen and download the show on my Mixcloud page where you can also find other mixes radio shows and DJ sets.

If you ever want to listen LIVE scroll down to the bottom of the living memory page or download the app on simpleradio.com  There are only a handful of radio shows as most of what the station broadcast is just people talking about their lives as that is what the living memory is all about. You can hear prostitutes talking about working at the docks or folk talking about what their school days were like.  A real mixture of the life of Edinburgh folk. Spread the word it’s a great cause. Statistically one  in five of us will get dementia. My dad has it.
